Matt Pacheco is an accomplished adobe builder, specializing in custom adobe homes and commercial buildings, as well as historic adobe renovation.
As a native New Mexican – born in Farmington and raised in Albuquerque – he began his building career at the age of 16, working in Union commercial construction. Having been born and raised in New Mexico, Matt developed a passion for southwestern style architecture at an early age. As a result, he has developed a lifelong interest in adobe building. Today, he designs and builds custom adobe homes as one of his specialties. He is an expert builder of custom adobe homes and commercial adobe structures, as well as sculptor, stonemason and landscaper.
His expertise in building with adobe and heavy timbers dovetails with sustainable design and construction. Matt is an environmentally conscious builder who emphasizes natural design, beauty and functionality in all his work. He appreciates working with adobes because they are all natural, and energy efficient. Adobe has been a primary building style throughout the world because it is the most accessible and sustainable of all building materials.
Matt studied at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of New Mexico from 1990 through 1995, and worked under Ann Taylor, Architect and PhD. Matt helped develop the Architecture and Children program at UNM, an architectural based curriculum and hands on learning program for kids. He taught the curriculum at RFK Charter Schools, Albuquerque Public Schools, and Santa Fe Children’s Museum. He was also class president for the School of Architecture in 1993. Matt also studied Industrial Arts at Adams State College in Colorado, and worked as a plumber for Quality Plumbing and Heating in Albuquerque.
Matt was licensed as a general contractor in 2001, with a GB 98 Commercial and Residential license. After getting his contractor license, and founding MRP Design & Construction (now “Lizard King” LLC), Matt focused on commercial projects, building and remodeling restaurants. In addition, Matt has completed countless home improvement projects, as well as new home construction of custom adobe homes.
Matt’s father is very influential in his life, and taught him the building trades. His father Tobias Pacheco, was an active member of the Laborers International Union for 35 years, serving as the business agent and president of Union Local 16.
As well as being a general contractor, Matt is both an artist and innovator. He continues to dedicate his time to building, and is known for his quality of work and customer satisfaction.
